Coastal Waterbird Habitat Posting and Restoration
Volunteers help to post and clean up waterbird nesting habitat along coastal NC. Activities occur in the spring and early fall and focus in Dare, Hyde, Carteret, and Onslow counties.
Emerald Isle Bird Stewards
Volunteers help monitor posted nesting habitat near The Point on Emerald Isle from April through early September during weekly shifts. Volunteers set up a spotting scope for monitoring nesting activity and raising awareness with the public.
NC Bird Atlas
The NC Bird Atlas is a statewide community science project to map birds during the breeding and wintering seasons. We support participation by a diversity of humans for the diversity of birds. Pine Island Tree Swallow Monitoring
Volunteers help the Pine Island Audubon Center (Corolla, NC) monitor tree swallow nest boxes for nesting activity and development in spring and summer.
WRC biologists use community members to help monitor a variety of reptile and amphibian populations. Acoustic monitoring of frog and toad species takes place from January through early June. Terrapin Tally is a coastal program in which volunteers kayak routes recording observations of terrapins. Herp Mapper surveys can take place just about anywhere anytime.
