NABat Training Materials

2026 Training Schedule

NABat volunteers will participate in a 3-part training this year.  To register for training, first make sure you have a profile in our Wildlife Community Science volunteer system. Once registered, you will be able to sign-up for online trainings through this profile.

Part 1:  NABat Orientation – (Optional for returning participants)

This is an online, self-guided training module (asynchronous training).  We will review the basic structure and background of the program.  This training should be completed prior to attending Part 2.

To complete Part 1: NABat Orientation, review the slides or watch the narrated version below. After reviewing, complete the Orientation Attendance Form below.

Part 2: NABat Protocols and Equipment Set-up – (to be completed by all volunteers)

This is an online, self-guided training module (asynchronous training). We will go over NABat data collection protocols in depth and demonstrate setting up and operating the equipment.  You should complete training by May 10th.

Part 3: NABat Hands-On Equipment Practice

All participants, new and returning, should touch base with their Regional Coordinator or the Project Coordinator to go over the equipment in your box before your survey.  We want to have you turn it on and test all the functions, make sure the cables and the GPS seem to be functioning well.  For each survey window we have a scheduled training session on the ‘off’ day between the windows. Hopefully by that time you will have received the kit and can log in to the session with the kit in hand. You should sign up for the session schedule JUST PRIOR to your survey window so that you will have your equipment in hand during the session. If you cannot attend that session date, reach out to your coordinator to schedule a time for a video call when you will be available and have the equipment in hand.
